Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile Announced

Posted on July 10, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Croteam and Devolver Digital have announced Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile. This expansion pack for Serious Sam 3: BFE is set for a PC release in October. Croteam’s Davor Hunski claims that the expansion “tells more of Sam’s story and cranks up the insanity.” Having played through some of it, I’m surprised to learn that Serious Sam 3 had a story (other than “go kill these monsters”).

According to the press release, the expansion will feature three new campaign missions set around the Temple of Isis on the real life Egyptian island of Philae. Devolver Digital’s Fork Parker posed the question as to whether Philae had any nude beaches, adding that “the only thing better than fast-paced, over-the-top action is a perfect pair of digital flesh melons.” Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be the case in real life. However, reality doesn’t feature hordes of screaming headless guys running around with bombs grafted on their hands, either. So, the developers shouldn’t feel constrained by anything remotely resembling reality.

If you are interested in picking up a cheap copy of the newfangled dungeon crawler Legend of Grimrock, then you should head on over to Good Old Games. Panzer Corps’ First Standalone Expansion Inbound

Posted on July 10, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Slitherine and Matrix Games have announced the first standalone expansion for their turn-based wargame Panzer Corps, entitled Panzer Corps: Afrika Corps. As the name suggests, this expansion will put you in control of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel’s Deutsches Afrikakorps as you attempt to push Britain out of the Middle East. Particularly successful players will even have an opportunity to advance into British India. Grognards will get a chance to outshine the Desert Fox once the expansion is released on the 31st of this month.

In addition to this new expansion, the original Panzer Crops is now on sale for 33% off. The sale lasts until the 15th, so people interested in conquering hexes for the Reich may want to look into the sale. You may read my review of the original Panzer Corps here and check out some of Afrika Corps’ features after the jump.Read More

Walking Dead FPS Announced By Activision

Posted on July 10, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Activision will be publishing a first person shooter based upon AMC’s The Walking Dead television show the publisher announced today. The game is due out in 2013 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC and should not be confused with TellTale Game’s series of adventure games based upon the Walking Dead graphic novels.

The Walking Dead for Xbox 360 will be developed by Terminal Reality, the developer behind Kinect Star Wars, Turning Point Fall of Liberty  and The Ghostbusters Videogame.  The Walking Dead TV series builds a surreal amount of tension and atmosphere and the game is set to recreate this by throwing hordes of the undead who rely on sight, smell and other reflexes in order to hunt player characters.

Activision will have a booth at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con (Booth #5344) where fans can pre-order the game, take part in a photo-op and potentially grab a promotional ‘walker ears’ necklace.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Launches In North America Next Year

Posted on July 10, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

SEGA’s Phantasy Star Online 2 launched in Japan over the July 4th holiday and the amount of buzz in the western gaming press has been more than impressive. SEGA of America confirmed this morning through press release that PSO 2 will be published in North America on Windows PC sometime in 2013.

PSO2  features 3 different classes for players to choose from – magic users, to ranged combat and hand to hand melees. The maps in Phantasy Star Online 2 will also be randomly generated, which is quite different from the original as that game only featured 4 maps with two variations each.

SEGA launched a small teaser site for the game. On the site you can check out brief bios for each of three clases & races as well as a pretty good primer if you missed the original game 12 years ago. The site is set to offer wallpapers and videos, but none where available at the time of writing.Read More
