Starhawk | Review

Posted on June 1, 2012 by Jason Bassett

There is nothing better than shooting down vehicles in flight; the fiery mass of technology spiraling though space with only a bad ending in sight. Starhawk is the successor of Warhawk, and Lightbox has delivered a ton of new features that will make your next trip to space one of the best on the Playstation. You are Emmett Graves and you are dealt with the unenviable task of saving the galaxy. Who are you saving it from? Your brother, Logan, who is pretty pissed off that you’re against him. As you use an arsenal of gadgets to help you along the way, especially when you need to destroy the mess of baddies.

What makes Starhawk truly unique is the Real-Time Strategy (RTS) style of gameplay mixed with a third person over the shoulder gameplay that mixes really well and offers a great challenge. There were times where I thought I would be able to clear though a bunch of enemies in an area, but found myself overwhelmed with areas by scabs and needed to build a huge wall (using multiple walls will connect them) along with a few turrets. What makes the game very fascinating is the using different equipment to maneuver through the air. One of the machines you can use is a Jetpack where you can hover around the area for a limited time. The jetpack is used very well especially in later levels. By far, the best part of the game is when you obtain a Hawk.Read More

SEGA Reveals JSR HD’s Soundtrack

Posted on June 1, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

SEGA has revealed the final soundtrack for this summer’s re-release of the vibrant graffiti game, Jet Set Radio. The original was known not only for its colorful pallet and use of cell shading but also its use of upbeat J-POP and electronica.

Are you ready to grind rails and tag walls all while avoiding the cops? Not all of the music from the original has made it into the re-release but this new version of JSF does contain music from SEGA’s own Hideki Naganuma and Guitar Vader.

Check out the set list after the jump.Read More

Valve Offering DOTA 2 Beta Access for $39.99

Posted on June 1, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Valve has launched an early access program for their upcoming free to play MOBA game DOTA 2. For the small sum *clears throat* .. of $39.99 USD you too can gain early access to the game as well as a collection of in game items.

“The opening of the Dota Store is a big part of our final push to launch,” Valve said in their press release sent out to promote the launch of the online store.

I am not exactly sure how well this will be received by the community. At the time of writing no details where available surrounding what items were included with the early access pass and whether or not they will carry over to the final game, although this is presumably the case. When we tried to access the DOTA 2 store we were presented with an error. Why not try for yourself?

During their E3 press conference Konami showcased a small segments sorrounding the upcoming Zone of the Enders HD Collection. Combining ports of the first two Zone of the Enders games, originally realsed on the PlayStation 2, Z.O.E HD hopes to introduce a new set of Mech Fans to Kojima’s action packed mech universe.

The segment was rather short but did touch up on a few key points sorrounding this HD upgrade. Similar to what Konami did with the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection textures have been remastered and updated for 1080P displays.  In the video we are shown a side-by-shot showcasing the difference between these two versions. As well as the techniques used by artists to clean up some of the traditional 2D anime artwork.

As a mech fan, I can honestly say I am excited for the Z.O.E HD Collection. Check out the latest developer diary after the jump, Z.O.E HD will be out in Japan in late October and at an unspecified date in Fall 2012 for North America.Read More
