Editor’s note: Staff at Broken Joysticks will be sharing their top five games, or game related stories, from 2012 throughout the week. We’re starting the feature with the top five from our contributing reviewer, Jason Fayta.
It’s hard to believe 2012 is over, and it’s equally hard to believe we’re already two weeks into 2013. Overall, I found 2012 to be a solid year for releases, but I can’t say there was a title I was completely enamored with, which lead to some difficulty in rounding out my top five releases from the year. However, as I went through my playing history, certain games began to stand out as titles I found most compelling, regardless of their flaws. So, without further ado, the top five…Posted in: Site News Tags: 2012, Capcom, Dragon's Dogma, Far Cry 3, Max Payne 3, Namco Bandai, PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Vita, Remedy Entertainment, Rockstar Games, Soulcalibur V, ubisoft

Capcom, famed developer and publisher that has brought gamers such franchises as Resident Evil and Street Fighter, enters the action role-playing genre on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with Dragon’s Dogma, a successful foray into fantasy open-world role-playing games.
Taking inspiration from Skyrim, Dark Souls, and Capcom’s own offerings, Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry, Dragon’s Dogma stands out by being derivative of several games and in turn becomes uniquely its own title and hopefully it’ll be the start of a new series. Just announced is an major expansion to Capcom’s new IP Dragon’s Dogma – titled “Dark Arisen.” Granted there is not a lot of information about this expansion other than it is tentatively dated for 2013. This game, even for its flaws, it one of the best new IPs I’ve played this year and I truly enjoy the heck out it.
Here is the teaser trailer for Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (and it’s just that…a teaser):
Also, there are additional modes supposedly set to launch before the end of the year as well: Speedrun & Hard mode.
It’s pretty self-explanatory, but Speedrun will challenge you to clear the game within a certain time. Doing so will earn specific in-game equipment based on the time you completed it in. Hard mode will be just that…Hard. Enemies will be tougher but completing the game will earn you with even more special equipment.
So, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will launch sometime in 2013. I’m excited about it, how about you all?Posted in: Microsoft, News, Sony Tags: Capcom, Dragon's Dogma, Dragon's Dogma DLC, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen
A new PS3 exclusive Dragon’s Dogma demo will be available starting next week. Capcom notes the demo will feature the game’s Prologue and have access to in-depth character customization before adventuring out to take on the Hydra to collect one of it’s heads to return to the castle. As with the original demo, character save data will carry over into the full main game. The demo will be available on August 15th in Europe and in North America on August 21st.
Beginning August 9th, the Pawn Community website, The Gran Soren Times, will be hosting a new competition. Players will be able to submit in-game screenshots taken using the photo sharing feature in Dragon’s Dogma into three different categories.
A new ‘Easy Mode’ update is also currently available on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game.
