August 29th Nintendo Download

Just a handful of releases this week but they’re also a handful of good ones.

Pokémon Rumble U arrives in the Wii U eShop this week as does the digital retail release of Rayman Legends. Also The Legend of Zelda arrives on the Wii U Virtual Console.

Over on the Nintendo 3DS Wario arrives with Wario Land 3 hitting the Virtual Console. Also the retail release BIT.TRIP SAGA has now seen a release in the eShop.

Skylanders SWAP Force on 3DS Detailed

Activision released some details of the Nintendo 3DS version of their upcoming Skylanders: SWAP Force today.

The Nintendo 3DS version of Skylanders SWAP Force offers gamers a unique adventure complete with its very own story, levels and special starter pack characters. The 3DS version is not the same game as found on consoles but is being dubbed as a truly complementary experience to the console version.

Skylanders SWAP Force on Nintendo 3DS will hit retail stores worldwide with three new characters — Rattle Shake, Volcanic Eruptor, and Free Ranger. These three characters will not be found in any other Skylanders Starter Pack.

Fourth Quarter Nintendo Lineup Announced

It was a busy Wednesday for Nintendo with four major announcements all coming at once. With a price drop for the Wii U, a Legend of Zelda Wii U bundle and even the launch of the 2DS, a non-3D tablet version of Nintendo’s popular 3DS handheld, the day was packed with news.

Nintendo Announces the 2DS?

Nintendo made a surprise announcement on Wednesday with the announcement of another ‘member of the Nintendo 3DS family.’ The Nintendo 2DS will launch as an affordable entry into Nintendo handheld gaming.

Nintendo 2DS will be available in Red or Blue and will hit retail stores on October 12th at a suggested retail price of $129.99. The new hardware will launch alongside Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.

The Nintendo 2DS hardware is essentially a 3DS sans the 3D component and will play all existing DS and 3DS games. The system also features a distinctive fixed, slate-type form factor. Gone are the clamshell design and the hinges. The system will then also have an optional carrying case also available in Red or Blue at launch at a suggested retail price of $12.99.

Nintendo Wii U Price Drop

After discontinuing the basic model set of the Wii U, Nintendo has announced that the price of the Deluxe model of the console will be reduced as of September 20th. The Deluxe model will be reduced by $50 to the price of the basic console.

The Nintendo Wii U Deluxe Set drops to to a new suggested retail price of $299.99 effective September 20th.

If you didn’t manage to take advantage of the recent Wal-Mart clear out of the basic model a few weeks ago this is now the best time to get your hands on the Deluxe set. And with a strong lineup of games coming in the fourth quarter the time could just be right.

Wii U Zelda Bundle and early eShop Release

Nintendo confirmed today that there will indeed be a Legend of Zelda Wii U bundle. The bundle had been rumoured for some time but Nintendo made that official.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Bundle will be a limited-edition Wii U bundle featuring The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. The bundle will launch on September 20 at $299.99.

The bundle includes a black Deluxe Wii U console, a GamePad controller adorned with gold lettering, a gold Hyrule crest and gold symbols from the game, a download code for the digital version of Hyrule Historia, a book that details the chronology, history and artwork of The Legend of Zelda series; and a code that can be used to download The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD from the Nintendo eShop immediately at no additional cost.

The digital version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will also launch on September 20th a full two weeks before the game goes on sale in retail stores. The packaged version won’t go on sale until October 4th with distinctive gold-foil packaging. The game retail at $49.99.
