Microsoft Changes Course On Kinect For Xbox One

Posted on August 12, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

You need not worry about the mandatory Kinect policy Microsoft announced earlier in the year. It was only a little while after E3 that Microsoft reversed their DRM policies for the Xbox One and now the company has changed tone once again, stating the users will be able to turn off the motion sensor in the system’s settings menu, or unplug it all together.

Marc Whitten of Microsoft gave a bit of a sound bite to IGN regarding the new policy:

“That said, like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn’t plugged in, although you won’t be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor,”

So there you have it, the second biggest complaint the online gaming community had about the Xbox One, coming in behind always online, the constantly connected Kinect is dead.
