Second Dimension: The Warriors Code Interview

Posted on February 27, 2014 by Broken Joysticks

The fighting game community (FGC) has grown from holding local events to smaller venues to occupying ballrooms at four-star establishments with talent from all across the globe attending. Major sponsors such as Capcom, Namco Bandai, and others are responsible for the development of some of the world’s most famous franchises in gaming, and are showcased at a central tournament featuring the top fighting talent from across the world. With major prizepools, fighting games are now reaching a platform that can be compared to traditional eSports.

Each week, I’ll be posting interviews I’ve had the pleasure of conducting with members of the fighting game community. The interviews will touch upon their history in the FGC, where they got their start, and what they’d like to see from video games in general.

This week’s guest is the moon rambler himself, Ryan Coker-Welch aka CTRL | The Moon.Read More

Next Gen Vs Current Gen: Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes

Posted on February 20, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Want to take a look at how Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes compares between console generations? Well, wonder no longer because Konami has released a two minute comparison video that shows us the differences between the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. Alongside this visual comparison, Konami also revealed the resolutions and frame rates for each version.

Next Generation players on either platform will be able to enjoy Ground Zereos at 60 frames per second but there are some caveats – only the PS4 version will run natively at 1080p. On current generation systems and the Xbox One the game will run at 720P. If you’re sporting a last generation system the game will run at 30 FPS and 720P.

From the multiple viewings of this trailer that I watched prior to the publication of this article the major differences between the two generations, FPS and resolution aside, appear to be more realistic lighting, cleaner shadows and higher resolution textures in the next gen version.

Which version will you be picking up? We’ll be reviewing the PlayStation 3 build of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes shortly after release. The game will be out on March 18th in North America and March 20th in Europe.  Make sure to check out Konami’s video after the jump.Read More

Irrational Games Closing, Ken Levine To Focus On Digital Games

Posted on February 20, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

In a surprise move that sent shockwaves throughout the gaming community earlier this week, Irrational Games founder Ken Lavine has announced that the studio will be downsizing from its current format as an AAA studio to one with just fifteen members. Considering the critical and financial success both the original Bioshock and last year’s Bioshock Infinite have enjoyed this move might seem out of left field, but Mr.Lavine has attempted to explain the rationale behind this decision in a rather lengthy blog post.

Developers affected by the closure will be offered financial and logistical support according to Levine to help them find new homes in the development community. Other publishers and developers will be visiting the irrational offices to recruit those who didn’t make the cut.

The as of yet unnamed new  studio that will focus on digital titles that are ‘highly re-playable’, the first of which is expected to be published under Irrational’s previous publisher 2K games.

Looking back, In his blog post Levine reflected on the founding of irrational and how he feels they will tackle the road ahead.Read More

For those unfamiliar, you can check out some of the screenshots that have been released. You can also see the first gameplay trailer that was released almost a year ago.
