World of Final Fantasy Demo Skips PS Vita In North America

Posted on October 17, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Square Enix has released a limited demo version of their upcoming fan service filled spin-off World of Final Fantasy across all major PlayStation Store regions. Unfortunately for handheld owners in North America the PS Vita demo version is not a random encounter on the PlayStation Store despite an English localization of the handheld demo being available in European countries.

World of Final Fantasy is the latest spin-off for Square’s long running RPG franchise and could be considered a “best of” collection, as the game features allusions to prior entries as well as chibi versions of characters from previous titles.  In World of Final Fantasy the player guides a pair of siblings as they explore a fairy tale world where “giants” are able to transform from the chibi-style of character to full sized human beings at will. Featuring the classic Active Time Battle system combined with an intriguing “Mirage catching mechanic” not unlike the monster collecting in Nintendo’s Pokemon titles, World of Final Fantasy includes a heavy dose of nostalgia for the well informed and some new toys to play with that may intrigue newcomers.

The demo version is said to be light on plot, as it features the same combat tutorials and single explorable dungeons to the version that we sampled at the September Penny Arcade Expo.

World of Final Fantasy releases next Tuesday October 25th with the “day one” edition including extra DLC – the Japanese voice add-on pack probably being the most noteworthy. It is a bit of bummer that Square Enix chose to forgo releasing the PS Vita demo version in North America considering that the handheld version will be launching here in just a week’s time. Perhaps the best move for players who want a taste now is to create a separate European PSN account in-order to play the localized demo.

PlayStation Essentials Weekly Sale Now Live

Posted on January 13, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The latest weekly sale for the PlayStation Network is one that Sony has dubbed the PlayStation Essentials sale. Basically they’ve partnered with a bunch of AAA developers/published and are offering some steep discounts on older content, including a few games from Sony first party studios. Some of these deals might not be Black Friday level discounts but there are some great choices among the offerings.

After browsing through the entire catalogue of discounted digital items I personally ended up picking up Project Cars (PS4), Devil May Cry HD Collection (PS3) and Dragon Age Inquisition (PS4) for under $35 Canadian. With rising game prices, even second hand prices on used games – it is nice to see some great deals on digital copies. I picked up one of 2015’s best racing games for under $20 CDN and didn’t even have to leave my house – or chair for that matter!

Here is a brief selection of some of the sales that start today:

PlayStation 4 Deals

  • Call of Duty Ghosts Gold – $19.80 CDN (with 10% plus discount)
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition w/ DLC Bundle – $14.00 CDN (with 10% plus discount)
  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Complete – $20.00 CDN (with 10% plus discount)
  • Infamous First Light – $7.49CDN (with 10% plus discount)
  • Infamous Second Son – $10.99 CDN (with 10% plus discount)
  • Metro Redux Bundle – $9 CDN (with 10% plus discount)
  • Project Cars – $14.99 CDN (with 10% plus discount)

PlayStation 3 Deals

  • Mass Effect Trilogy – $9 CDN (with 10% plus discount)
  • Saints Row 4 – $4 CDN (with 10% plus discount)
  • Shadow of the Colossus HD – $8 CDN (with 10% plus discount)
  • Shin Magami Tensai: Persona 4 (PS2 classics ver) – $3.00 CDN

PlayStation Vita Deals

  • Daganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair -$14.00 CDN (with 10% plus discount)
  • Persona 4: Golden – $9.00 CDN (with 10% plus discount)

Soul Sacrifice Now Available On PlayStation Plus

Posted on November 26, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Did you miss out on Keiji Inafune’s last post mega man project, Soul Sacrifice? Sony has posted this latest Vita exclusive role-playing game for all PlayStation Plus subscribers to enjoy. We don’t know how long the game will be available so you should grab it as soon as possible – sometimes free games are available for a few months and other times they’re gone after only a few short weeks.

The install clocks in at about 1.8 GBs, so if you are still using one of the 4GB memory cards that often ships with the PlayStation Vita you might be in a bit of trouble.
