Sonic Adventure 2 HD | Review

Posted on October 9, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Oh Sega. You have come a long way since the Sonic the Hedgehog reboot for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. You have been trying your hardest to give us a great Sonic game since those days where you were at your lowest point. With the last games: Sonic Generations and Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episodes I and II, it seems as though you’re starting to come back into good graces with the fans.

With Sonic Adventure 2 HD and the plethora of other old Dreamcast titles, it seems as though Sega is going back to the past to look for some inspiration. It’s good that they have come back to Sonic Adventure 2, because it was one of the most controversial titles during it’s time on the Dreamcast and now we have the full version just sitting on our Xbox 360 and PS3 hard drives. So, does Sonic Adventure 2 bring the goods?Read More

Microsoft Confirms Cash for Xbox Content on Windows 8

Posted on October 9, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Today, Microsoft lifted the veil on their pricing for Xbox content on PC’s running Windows 8. Windows 8 will indeed be taking normal money for Xbox content. This is welcome news for anyone looking to get new content via the Xbox Live Marketplace. In a statement that was given to The Verge:

“Current Xbox Live customers may also make a purchase using points,” says a Microsoft spokesperson.

This also brings up a very big important point for Xbox 360 users. Microsoft will not be getting rid of the Microsoft Points and it will still the the primary method of obtaining content on Xbox 360 machines. This is a huge blow to many fans wanting Microsoft to get rid of the point system and using normal currency to purchase and obtain content. Microsoft also gave The Verge a statement about this as well:

“Microsoft Points continue to be the currency for purchasing content for the Xbox 360 console.”

Does this mean the Xbox 360 will always use the point system? It seems very possible that Microsoft will continue to use the point system until the end of the Xbox 360’s lifecycle. It could be an inclusion in next year’s Xbox 360 console update cycle. I wouldn’t hold my breathe on that one.

The World of Warcraft Killer

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Have you been playing World of Warcraft recently? Do you have the latest expansion Mists of Pandaria? Are you sitting there reading this and getting mad? Then you’ve probably hit the Mists of Pandaria hacker today on World of Warcraft.

So, here’s the story by Dual Shockers: A level one player managed to hack the game to get to fly around the city and start killing innocent bystanders that just happened to be at the Alliance capitol city: Stormwind. Why was he doing it? Well, we do not have that information at this time, heck, we don’t even have the player that was doing it. What makes this even weirder, is that there Blizzard was working on a fix that would stop players from being stuck on the world connection screen. Pretty weird, eh? Is that a coincidence somehow?

It seems that Blizzard is still looking into this issue and have already rolled out the fix for the connection issues. We’ll update you more as soon as we hear anything. You might want to stay away from Stormwind for a while in the meantime.

Rayman Legends Delayed

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Uh oh! It looks like the one of the very first launch titles will be delayed. Rayman Legends will be delayed until to Q1 2013 said Ubisoft today.

In a statement given by Ubisoft, this is what they had to say regarding the delay:

Rayman Legends will launch worldwide in the first quarter of 2013.

We’re happy that fans are excited about the game, and we are taking the time to make sure we deliver a game that lives up to and hopefully exceeds their expectations. We’ll have more details to share soon.

The original plan for Rayman Legend was that it was supposed to be one of the 23 launch titles that would ship with the system. The Wii U launch title count is now down to 22 in the US and 12 across Europe. One now has to wonder if the more titles could be delayed with the November 18th release date now creeping closer.

We hope, however, that this will be the last piece of bad news for titles coming out close to or on the release date .

Nintendo Wii U is Region Locked

Posted on September 24, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Oh, Nintendo. Why do you go and make something awesome and then decide to pull things like this. If you have been catching up on the latest and greatest news on the Nintendo Wii U, then you will know that Famitsu just put out an article regarding the Wii U.

They have reported that Nintendo’s newest addition to your living room not feature the ability to play games outside of the US and Canada. So, if you want to play your Nintendo Wii U games from Japan, you’ll need to buy a Japanese Wii U in order to play them. This is very typical Nintendo as both the original Wii and the Nintendo 3DS are all region locked.

If you’re an avid collector of European or Japanese games, then I’m sure you’re just as disappointed as I am with this development.

Nintendo Wii U releases on November 18th, 2012 here in the States and will start at $299.99.

Is Dust 514 Coming in October?

Posted on September 23, 2012 by Jason Bassett

It seems as though Jack Tretton of Sony just gave away a very important video game timeline that has been part of the minds of gamers everywehre. When does Dust 514 come out? Well, Tretton was on Fox Business on Friday, September 14 and gave away a hint that we may have almost missed.

In the video (featured below) Tretton goes on to talk about the falling numbers that has hit Sony. Towards the end of his explanation, he goes on to talk about a new Free to Play title named Dust 514. He then goes on to talk more about the game and then mentions that the game will be out “next month”. Doing the math, next month will be October.

Currently, Dust 514 is in a private beta and given that more and more people are being added to the beta, this seems to be a very solid time.

3DS Circle Pad Goes XL

Posted on September 20, 2012 by Jason Bassett

In a move that’s not surprising in the least, Nintendo looks as though they have announced a brand new Circle Pad Pro for the Nintendo 3DS XL. Information is scarce, there is no release date or price (sound familiar?), but there is a mock up of how the add-on will look like.

Nintendo introduced the Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro back in 2011 and was released in February in 2012 Stateside. The new model seems not much removed from it’s predecessor, which in my mind, is a good thing. Take a look at the screen below.

New Playstation 3 Model Announced

Posted on September 19, 2012 by Jason Bassett

During Sony’s pre-TGS conference today, Sony unveiled a brand new model of the Playstation 3 console. The console is said to 25% thinner and 20% lighter than it’s predecessor and has been built from the ground up.

Along with it’s redesign, there will be two different models of the system. A 250GB model that will retail for around $270, a steal in my mind. Not to mention, the American 250GB model will contain the full game of Uncharted 3, a $30 digital downloads voucher and a voucher to download Dust 514. Sony also mentioned a 500GB model, unfortunately, there was no price for the 500GB model.

The newer slim model will consist on two colors at launch. The black console will be due out in America on September 25th and October 4th in Japan, where as the white model will launch on October 30th in America and November 22nd in Japan.

There will also be an Assassins Creed III bundle on sale on October 30th as well, but unfortunately, there is no price tag for that either. See below for another picture of the Uncharted 3 bundle!

Steam: Big Picture Goes Public Beta

Posted on September 10, 2012 by Jason Bassett

You know that thing that Valve has been tinkering with? They call it Big Picture and it has just went into Beta. What is Big Picture?  Big Picture is just a small step in a big trend as Valve comes into the console race. Think of Big Picture as the software or Operating System to the hardware. While Valve has finally confirmed that they are indeed in the hardware race, Big Picture will let your TV get a lot more than just playing your Xbox.

As an example, let’s say you have a small multimedia PC that you use for games on Steam. Now, let’s say you take that PC and plug it into your TV via HDMI. Launch Steam and then launch Big Picture and you will then have the console experience right within Steam and right in a PC ready controller.

Want more information on Steam’s Big Picture? Head over to http://store.steampowered.com/bigpicture/

As if we didn’t get enough of the Final Fantasy XIII goodness, we get another call to action from Square Enix. Tonight, Square Enix formally announces LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII. This will be the final game in the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy.

If you head over to visit Square Enix’s site, you will find a video of Yoshinori Kitase explaining about a crystal and more about the game itself. Kitase tells us, instead of doing a trailer for the game, there will be “multiple presentations” that will be shown throughout the site, beginning September 4th.Read More
