MGS V: Ground Zeroes Discounted To $20

Posted on October 30, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Has the price for MGS V: Ground Zeroes kept you waiting for a discount? Just in time for Halloween, Konami has announced that all digital and physical copies of Ground Zeroes will be reduced to $19.99! Considering the game originally retailed for $39.99 USD for physical copies (or $44.99 if you live in the great white north) this new price point might be more appealing.

When we reviewed the game this past April we praised the brand new mechanics on display as well as the impressive graphics. The main story mission is rather short, clocking in at around 2 hours in length, but the extra missions do add some re-playability to Ground Zereos. If you’re looking to get a taste of MGS V before The Phantom Pain drops next year there is no other way to do it.

Full PR text after the jump.

Techland Sends Xbox 360 / PS3 Versions of Dying Light To The Grave

Posted on October 28, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dying Light developer Techland has announced that they have ceased production on the last generation versions of their upcoming undead slaying action game.  They cited the fact that the PS3 and Xbox 360 couldn’t quite handle advanced features like physics based lighting technologies or displaying up to 200,000 objects on screen at one time as one of the contributing factors for cancelling both versions.

Sad news for those who haven’t jumped into the eight generation of consoles, yours truly included. Dying Light will now ship on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC  on January 27th 2015 and will be published by Warner Bros Interactive. There have been no plans for a Wii-U version of the game either, so if you picked up Nintendo’s latest console and where hoping for some more zombie killing action you’re out of luck.

Check out Techland’s full statement after the jump.Read More

Super Smash Bros for Wiiu Nintendo Direct Set For Tomorrow

Posted on October 22, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Are your thumbs still sore from smashing your opponents off screen? The Big N has a Nintendo Direct live stream set for Thurs October 23rd at 3PM PST to announce some new features for the Wii U version of Nintendo’s cross-franchise brawler.   We’re not sure what they’re going to announce, a console exclusive level based upon the hit Doshin the Giant games, perhaps? (an obscure game I know.. look it up!)

The 3DS version has done fantastically well, selling over 2.8 million copies worldwide in just a few short weeks. There is a reason Jason awarded the game a perfect 10.0 in his review!

The Legend of Korra Now Available on PSN and Xbox Live

Posted on October 22, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

The world of elemental benders becomes interactive with the release of The Legend of Korra on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PS3 and Xbox One. Veteran action game developers Platinum Games bring the hit nickelodeon animated series to life in the form of a single-player action game which features several different elemental attacks for Korra to use against her foes. Fast paced action isn’t the only play style on display either, there is also a polar bear-dog racing mini game featuring Korra’s trusty companion Naga.

With a visual style that captures the look of the animated series quite well I’m sure that The Legend of Korra will appeal to long time fans. The game’s story is set between books 2 and 3 and features the voice actors from the show. It will be priced at $14.99 (CDN) and can be downloaded from the PlayStation Network right now or through Xbox Live starting tomorrow.

Broken Joysticks will have a review of the Legend of Korra videogame later this week!

Heavensward! FFXIV: A Realm Reborn teases its first expansion

Posted on October 21, 2014 by Chelsea Richards

Square Enix has had one busy weekend, with the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival giving us lots of big news, with regards to its MMO that successfully relaunched last August under the same name. The new expansion is set to take place in Ishgard, which current players may remember scraping the surface of in the Coerthas Central Highlands. Alongside the typical features of  an increased level cap, and spells to go along with said increased cap, players are also earning the ability for their Free Companies (guilds) to construct their own airships. Also included are both a new Dark Knight job, and a currently unannounced race.

While we haven’t heard anything at the Las Vegas show with regards to the plans for the Golden Saucer and its implementation of Chocobo Racing, we are told that more information is to come from the London show on October 25th, and the Tokyo show from December 20th. Heavensward: Final Fantasy XIV is expected to go live in Spring of 2015.

Before then, however, is the release of patch 2.4 “Dreams of Ice” featuring the new primal fight of Shiva, while introducing players to the new class of Rogue and its job-extension into Ninja. Familiar bosses Typhon and Ultros and a few new dungeons are also expected to make appearances when this patch goes live on October 28th.Read More

The Legend of Dark Witch | REVIEW

Posted on October 15, 2014 by Jason Nason

The Legend of Dark Witch is a simple platform game from Circle for the 3DS. The game feels and plays similar to Mega Man, so if you’ve played those games you’ll know what to expect, and it doesn’t let you down.

The plot of the game is simple to get you going. In the game, somebody has stolen all of the Syega Crystals, which gave their powers to the people of the world. After all the Syega crystals are missing, the world plunges into darkness. As the dark witch Zizou, you must retrieve the missing Syega Crystals.

The first thing that drew me to this game is the look of the game, to be honest. The Legend of Dark Witch is a 2D side scrolling platform game where you run and jump, shooting enemies and avoiding obstacles. There is definitely an anime flair to the art in the game, as well as the look of the sprites. They are all beautifully done, as are the levels and backgrounds. There was definitely a lot of attention paid to these elements, and they make playing the levels more inviting.
