Voting Now Open for CVA Fans Choice Award

Posted on March 31, 2014 by Jason Nason

Voting is now open for the Fans’ Choice Award for the 5th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards. The awards celebrates Canadian-made videogames.

Nominees for game created in 2013 are Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Batman: Arkham Origins, Contrast, Dead Rising 3, Don’t Starve, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Guacamelee!, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Outlast and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist.

Also announced today were the nominations for the other awards, which will be presented in Toronto on November 21st. Strangely nominees for Game of the Year are exactly the same as the Fans’ Choice award so I guess the games get two kicks at the can for an award.

Second Dimension: The Warriors Code Interview

Posted on March 13, 2014 by Broken Joysticks

The fighting game community (FGC) has grown from holding local events to smaller venues to occupying ballrooms at four-star establishments with talent from all across the globe attending. Major sponsors such as Capcom, Namco Bandai, and others are responsible for the development of some of the world’s most famous franchises in gaming, and are showcased at a central tournament featuring the top fighting talent from across the world. With major prizepools, fighting games are now reaching a platform that can be compared to traditional eSports.

Each week, I’ll be posting interviews I’ve had the pleasure of conducting with members of the fighting game community. The interviews will touch upon their history in the FGC, where they got their start, and what they’d like to see from video games in general.

This week’s guest is the best looking Rufus player, Brentt Franks aka NGL | Brentt.Read More

Tecmo Koei’s long running Atelier series gets another release stateside with the announcement that Atelier Escha & Logy has shipped to retailers for the PlayStation 3.

This latest iteration offers more than just the usual Atelier trimmings we’ve come to expect – aside from gorgeous graphics and adorable characters – Escga & Logy also bring with them the new imbue system. This system allows players to customize their weapons and armour by amending a wide variety of properties. Tweaks to the series staple synthesis system mean that as players progress they will unlock the ability to craft more complex potions/items as the story progresses. Party size has also increased, doing away with the franchises’ traditional 3 party model for a much fuller six member roster.Read More

South Park: The Stick of Truth | Review

Posted on March 4, 2014 by Les Major

South Park is an incredibly accurate gaming experience. The style is exactly like the show and it flows so well between cut scenes and regular gameplay. Exploration in the open world of South Park makes the game just a joy to experience. You really are the new kid in town and the game does a fantastic job of making you feel like a character in the show itself.

It’s ridiculous just how entertaining it is to go from house to house and explore. The game is so much fun in this way, I’m already craving Halloween DLC, unless there is something like that in game and I’m just not there yet. This really is your own living, breathing version of the show. So much so that you’ll get distracted away from the RPG elements rather quickly. Even their implementation is well thought out.Read More
