New Zelda and Pikmin Series Coming to Nintendo Video

Posted on October 31, 2013 by Jason Nason

Finally Nintendo seems to be listening to me, or rather the thousands of fans who have likely voiced the same thing. Original Nintendo content on Nintendo Video.

Nintendo Video is ready to launch a fresh lineup of new shows for the fall. The free video application for the Nintendo 3DS will debut new short-form videos starting November 1st that will continue into 2014. Five new series have been slated, including two featuring The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Pikmin 3!

I’ve long said that Nintendo could and should leverage their well known properties in some way, whether it be licensing or producing high quality content for theatres or television. Nintendo Video? I’ll take it. It’s a great first step.

“This latest set of great new shows for Nintendo Video gives fans a unique way to enjoy two of their favorite Nintendo franchises, in addition to hand-picked series from some of the most imaginative and successful creators in the world of animation,” said Tony Elison, Nintendo of America’s senior director of Business Development.

Take a look at the new series coming to your Nintendo 3DS (and 2DS) starting tomorrow!

Unit Lost! EA Cancels Command & Conquer, Closes Victory Games

Posted on October 30, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Electronic Arts has debriefed the developers of the upcoming free to play Command & Conquer for the last time it seems. The upcoming multiplayer shooter has been shelved by the publisher and the game’s developer, Victory Games, has been shuttered according to multiple media reports. It’s sad to see such a promising entry in a long running series and an untold number of developers assigned to new projects or worse out of a job.

In a detailed statement on the official C&C website the publisher revealed the decision to cancel the project after collecting feedback from the game’s recent closed alpha test. In particular they cite the game’s lack of focus on a campaign mode and “built-in economy system” as a concern from series veterans. They promised to continue work on C&C, but with the developer closed it’s probable that whatever form the series takes next a new developer will be at the helm.Read More

Sine Mora Is The Latest Gratis Game on PlayStation Plus

Posted on October 28, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

The PlayStation Vita suffered a bit of a drought this past summer but now with new releases like Killzone: Mercenary & Dragon’s Crown on the shelves and YS just on the horizon, we finally have some new retail games to play. Well, Sony is upping the ante for those of us looking for digital games with the announcement that Grasshopper Manufacture’s 2012 shoot’em up Sine Mora will be available free of charge for PlayStation Plus subscribers starting tomorrow, provided you’ve got the space on your memory card.

Bullet hell shooters are nothing new but Sine Mora changes up the established formula with a different kind of health mechanic. Instead of a health meter, Sine Mora challenges players to complete stages within a given time limit and to add just a little bit more sweat to your brow – every time you take a hit the time limit just a little bit. With its colourful graphics and 5 different modes it sounds like Sine Mora has a lot of content and you can’t really beat the price of free!

Sine Mora was originally released in the Fall of 2012 and has ported to the PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Xbox 360, PC, Android / IOS and most recently the Ouya.

Surprise! You Can Battle Aliens In COD: Ghost’s Extinction Mode

Posted on October 28, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

It looks like copies of Call of Duty: Ghosts are already out in the wild. Considering the game is due out in a week’s time, this should come as a surprise to no one. What is a bit of a surprise, is the reveal of Extinction Mode, a sort of replacement for the ever popular Zombies mode that challenges you to battle off waves of extra terrestrials.

The confirmation of Extinction mode comes after several screen grabs of the mode made their way around the internet over the weekend. You won’t be battling the alien hordes right away mind you, unlike Zombies – Extinction is unlocked after you’ve completed the first five campaign missions in Ghosts.

Check out a brief trailer and official description after the jump!Read More

Posted on October 28, 2013 by Les Major

Best Buy was hosting an event over the weekend to get to try the Xbox One. We showed up just at closing time and got to try out Killer Instinct before they wrapped up for the day. To my surprise the reps did know pricing for the characters. For those who don’t know, the new Killer Instinct has a free version which features Jago as the only playable character. Others can be bought seperately or as a bundle. We now know that pricing.Read More

Second Dimension: The Warriors Code Interview

Posted on October 25, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

The fighting game community (FGC) has grown from holding local events to smaller venues to occupying ballrooms at four-star establishments with talent from all across the globe attending. Major sponsors such as Capcom, Namco Bandai, and others are responsible for the development of some of the world’s most famous franchises in gaming, and are showcased at a central tournament featuring the top fighting talent from across the world. With major prize pools, fighting games are now reaching a platform that can be compared to traditional eSports.

Each week, I’ll be posting interviews I’ve had the pleasure of conducting with members of the fighting game community. The interviews will touch upon their history in the FGC, where they got their start, and what they’d like to see from video games in general.

This week’s guest is one of the top east coast players as well as cereal rater, Angel Gonzalez aka TA | Moons.Read More

LEGO Marvel Super Hereos Swings Into Retail

Posted on October 22, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

A collection of Marvel Super Heroes from a number of franchises, including the X-Men, the Avengers, Fantastic Four & more swing into action with the launch of Lego Marvel Super Heroes on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, 3DS and other platforms. Developed by long time LEGO videogame series veterans, Traveler’s Tales, this latest game pits the like of Thor, Iron Man, and Spider-Man against villains like Doctor Doom, Mystique, Locki and the Red Skull. All told over 100 members of Marvel’s finest are playable in this latest title.

I think the game is quite adorable, surprisingly the Heli-carrier and New York City skyline look rather detailed, shying away a bit from the LEGO franchise’s established cartoon nature, but don’t worry because the scenery still seems to be full of hundreds of bolts ready for collection! Like most modern LEGO titles, Traveler’s Tales has incorporated voice acting into their games, which was established with last year’s LEGO City Undercover while maintaining that unique whimsical charm they seem to bring to all of their games.

Check out a launch trailer after the jump. Next-Gen versions are also expected out on November 15th on PlayStation 4 and November 22nd for the Xbox One.Read More

Rumor: Alien Isolation In Development At Creative Assembly

Posted on October 22, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

The long running Aliens franchise is set to return to our living rooms next year in the form of a brand new video game being developed by the studio behind Total War, Creative Assembly. Titled Alien: Isolation, this new first person shooter has  reportedly been in development for some time for both current gen (PS3 / Xbox 360) & next-gen (PC / PS4/ Xbox One) platforms  and will hopefully not end up in a similar PR nightmare that Aliens: Colonial Marines became during its launch this past spring.Read More

Posted on October 22, 2013 by Les Major

With our review for Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness just around the corner, I wanted to address fans who aren’t quite sure of what they’ve seen on the store shelves as of late. Disgaea D2, or Disgaea Dimension 2 as it’s known in Japan, is a direct sequel to the original title released ten years ago. Though even if you’ve never played a game in the series before, you won’t be left out in the dark. It’s easy to get into. Spoilers follow, but if you’re looking for reasons to pick it up, read on!Read More
