Konami to Update 3DS Castlevania in HD

Posted on August 19, 2013 by Jason Nason

Konami announced today that they will be updating Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate in HD for release on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. The game was originally released for the Nintendo 3DS earlier this year.

In the game, it is the end of days and ungodly powers isolate the Earth. The worlds’ alliance with the heavens has been threatened by a dark and malevolent force – the mysterious Lords of Shadow. Across this shattered land, the souls of the dead wander unable to find peace, whilst creatures of evil wreak chaos and death upon the living.

Gabriel Belmont is a member of the Brotherhood of Light, an elite group of holy knights who protect and defend the innocent against the supernatural. His beloved wife was brutally murdered by the evil forces of darkness and her soul trapped for eternity. Neither living nor dead she realizes the horrific truth of what is at stake and guides Gabriel to his destiny – and hopefully salvation for the world.

Skylanders: SWAP Force Easy Going On Collectors

Posted on August 19, 2013 by Les Major

The info below comes from an E3 2013 interview with Gamespot. It is assumed information from this interview alone as well as confirming that older characters do indeed work in SWAP Force as the official site notes in their FAQ.

Skylanders collectors probably won’t have any issue with picking up new SWAP Force figures when they are released October 13th, however if you’re a bit tight on funds you’ll be happy to learn that one aspect of the game seems to support your current set.Read More

It seems that a JRPG may be coming to the 3DS.

On August 6th @nicalis hinted at something coming with the tweet “JRPG+SNES style music+3DS.” That tweet was preceded by one asking their twitter followers where they could find a good SNES style composer.

According to a posting on Destructoid, Nicalis, the developer behind NightSky, will publish the former 16-bit style RPG Android title Grinsia for the Nintendo 3DS.

Disney Infinity for 3DS Not Looking Good

Posted on August 17, 2013 by Jason Nason

I can’t say for sure as far as the gameplay goes as we didn’t get our hands on a pre-release copy of Disney Infinity, but the 3DS iteration of the game isn’t looking that great.

The game launches tomorrow on all major consoles including the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo Wii. The game is a direct competitor to the Skylanders franchise which includes collectible toys which can be placed on a control deck and brought into your video game.

While the game is looking great and seeing a lot of positive words from critics, the 3DS edition is looking like a totally different game and visually seems like an afterthought by the developers. I’ve seen far prettier textures from games.

EA Sports is bringing the next FIFA game to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next month (plus the Xbox One and PS4 later in the year) but there is no release pending for Nintendo consoles. Or maybe there is?

While there is no mention of the game for Nintendo’s comsoles on EA’s website the game has been rated by the ESRB. FIFA 14 for the Nintendo Wii popped up on the ESRB website today. The game was also given a rating today for PS2, PSP and PS Vita. Could EA Sports be releasing the game on the Wii?

A press release from EA Sports back in June of this year did have mention of the game being released for both the Wii and 3DS, though not for Nintendo’s Wii U console.

Posted on August 15, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

The fighting game community (FGC) has grown from holding local events to smaller venues to occupying ballrooms at four-star establishments with talent from all across the globe attending. Major sponsors such as Capcom, Namco Bandai, and others are responsible for the development of some of the world’s most famous franchises in gaming, and are showcased at a central tournament featuring the top fighting talent from across the world. With major prize pools, fighting games are now reaching a platform that can be compared to traditional eSports.

Each week, I’ll be posting interviews I’ve had the pleasure of conducting with members of the fighting game community. The interviews will touch upon their history in the FGC, where they got their start, and what they’d like to see from video games in general.

This week’s guest is one of my fellow knights from a distant land: Hayden Griswold aka PA|KinderpartyRead More

Microsoft Changes Course On Kinect For Xbox One

Posted on August 12, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

You need not worry about the mandatory Kinect policy Microsoft announced earlier in the year. It was only a little while after E3 that Microsoft reversed their DRM policies for the Xbox One and now the company has changed tone once again, stating the users will be able to turn off the motion sensor in the system’s settings menu, or unplug it all together.

Marc Whitten of Microsoft gave a bit of a sound bite to IGN regarding the new policy:

“That said, like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn’t plugged in, although you won’t be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor,”  Read More
