Alice: Otherlands Concept Art Shows Part Of New Game

Posted on May 10, 2013 by Les Major

Don’t panic. I’ve been reading through the Facebook posts of the above recently released concept art from the latest Alice game, and I’m here to help sort out some concerns. It seems many fans took this glance at a section of the new game, Alice Otherlands, as a Facebook social game. American McGee seems to have personally responded to these concerns with the statement after the break.Read More

First Gameplay Of Hellraid Emerges

Posted on May 8, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Announced just a little over a week ago was Hellraid, coming from developer of the popular Dead Island franchise, Techland. Hellraid is essentially Dead Island meets Skyrim with four player co-op – which sounds like a win-win to me.  Here is how the game is described on the official website in terms of playable classes:

Play in cooperation in a team of four heroes with different skills and weapon capabilities. Slaughter enemies with swords and axes as a Warrior. Heal and protect your friends with the Paladin’s defensive magic. Burn, freeze and electrocute demons with the Mage’s staff and kill with precision of the Rogue’s crossbow.

Today Techland released a brief gameplay trailer showing off a glimpse of what the combat in Hellraid will be like. Which, the entire combat system was taken from the Dead Island game and implemented into this game. For the trailer keep reading after the jump.Read More

Wolfenstein: The New Order Announced By Bethesda

Posted on May 7, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Bethesda Softworks released a surprise announcement today, that is they are publishing a new Wolfenstein game. Titled Wolfenstein: The New Order, it is in development at Swedish developer MachineGames (which was founded back in 2009 by founders of Starbreeze Studios).

This new installment of Wolfenstein is set in an alternate universe where the Nazi’s won World War II and this game is thought as the “reimagining” of the franchise. So a new studio takes over a great franchise and hopefully they will make something spectacular of it – unlike the most recent attempt which received a 72/100 average over at Metacritic.

With the announcement of the Wolfenstein: The New Order is of course a new trailer, which you can see after the jump!

Disney and EA Announce Multi-Year Star Wars Games Partnership

Posted on May 6, 2013 by Joshua Rust

The House Of Mouse and publishing giant Electronic Arts have agreed to multi-game and multiyear agreement that will put the Star Wars brand in the hands of studios like Visceral, DICE, & Bioware. Of course Bioware is no stranger as they have put out one of the best Star Wars games ever created, in my opinion, Star Wars: The Knights Of The Old Republic. No, I’m not talking about that MMO one either. Unfortunately, I don’t think this means that the impressive and promising Star Wars 1313 game will be resurrected – but one can hope.

Electronic Arts will be handling the ‘core’ Star Wars games, while Disney will focus on the casual games – ranging from phones, tablets, consoles, & PC. Here’s hoping that we will get some quality titles out of this deal. For the official press release, keep reading after the jump.Read More

Road Rash Redemption Kickstarter Adds XBLA Version

Posted on May 6, 2013 by Joshua Rust

That is, if the goal is reached. Road Rash, how I miss you. How I miss taking down P.E. No.1. The chains, the mace, and overall hectic motorcycle racing carnage. The first time I played Road Rash was back on Sega Genesis and I instantly fell in love with it. I’ve long wished for a reboot or a re-release over XBLA and/or PSN and it looks like that it’s a possibility – with your help, that is.

DarkSeas Games, based out of New Orleans, is looking to seek support (and I mean the financial kind) to help raise even more money for their stretch goal in their Kickstarter project titled: Road Rash Redemption. You can find the link the Kickstarter game here. The XBLA version would require $178,000 to become reality and as of now they are sitting at almost $110,000. So, that’s about $70,000 they need to raise over 5 days to get a XBLA version up and going. So please spread the word!

A fan trailer for Road Rash Redemption was created by one of the backers if you’re having trouble remembering what Road Rash is all about…Read More

Pacific Rim Game Coming To XBLA?

Posted on May 6, 2013 by Joshua Rust

It appears to be all but confirmed as the Australian classifications board has listed the video game tie-in to Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming blockbuster film. It looks like Warner Brothers Interactive will be publishing the game and Yukes will be developing it. Yukes is the team behind WWE ’13 and Real Steel so they do have experience with fighting games – as this appears what the Pacific Rim game will focus around. Some screenshots have been leaked as well, which you can see after the jump.Read More

Warner Bros Interactive, publisher of the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins have released a collection of five brand new screenshots. These new stills give us a glimpse into the world that Warner Bros Montreal is crafting using resources from the original developers Rock Steady.

Gotham swat teams pose for action in a smokey alleyway as the Dark Knight watches from the mist in one screenshot. In another, we see Batman about to square off against the mercenary known as DeathStroke. These screenshots convey a lot of emotion and tension. Make sure to check them all out after the jump.

May The 4th Be With You: BattleFront III Livestream

Posted on May 4, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Celebrate Star Wars Day with over an hour of footage from the defunct Star Wars: Battlefront III. Twitch TV channel, Past to Present (P to P) decided to celebrate the popular sci-fi staple by live streaming over an hour of new content from a pre-alpha build of the cancelled combat game. What a better way to celebrate a storied franchise than to get an in-depth glimpse into of the most requested Star Wars titles ever.

Originally developed by the now closed Free Radical Studioes, Battlefront III was a current generation combat game set in the Star Wars Universe. The first two titles allowed players to battle it out using the series’ famous vehicles, weapons and combat roles, as well as play as fan favorites like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Bobba Fett. Battlefront III was slated to allow PS3/Xbox players to begin their battles in space, above key planets, and seamlessly travel to land battles on the planets surface. Call it ambitious, but the whole thing sounds awesome.

Given the more recent closure of Lucas Arts and the cancellation of Star Wars 1313, it is nice to get such a long look at such an ill-fated project as Battlefront III. Their stream ended about an hour prior to the writing of this article, so we’ve embedded it after the jump.Read More

Injustice: Reviews Among Us – More Hands On Impressions

Posted on May 3, 2013 by Les Major

It seems we here at Broken Joysticks love Injustice. Unfortunately we can only share one review per site, so think of this as a compliment to kashhoward’s wonderful review. Below is my review from Darkain Arts Gamers that I am sharing as an extended hands on impression to my time with the game so far. I played the Xbox 360 version and also gave the game a 9 out of 10.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is a departure from Mortal Kombat’s usual fighting style, but has familiar elements that will keep Nether Realm fans from feeling alienated. Considered a way for the team to take some risks and experiment with new concepts, Injustice is an excellent example of what an established company can do with a property they seem passionate about.Read More

WoW’s Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War Now In Paperback

Posted on May 3, 2013 by Les Major

The latest World of Warcraft novel by Christie Golden is an absolute treat, and now you can purchase it in travel size! Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War is now available as a paperback novel. Our upcoming review will go into detail on just how awesome this book is, but I can safely say it’s definitely worth a read. I’m sure fantasy fans in general can enjoy it as a stand alone, but Warcraft fans especially will want to experience these latest moments in the war between the Alliance and the Horde for themselves.Read More

Second Dimension: The Warrior’s Code Interview

Posted on May 2, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

The fighting game community (FGC) has grown from holding local events to smaller venues to occupying ballrooms at four-star establishments with talent from all across the globe attending. Major sponsors such as Capcom, Namco Bandai, and others are responsible for the development of some of the world’s most famous franchises in gaming, and are showcased at a central tournament featuring the top fighting talent from across the world. With major prize pools, fighting games are now reaching a platform that can be compared to traditional eSports.

Each week, I’ll be posting interviews I’ve had the pleasure of conducting with members of the fighting game community. The interviews will touch upon their history in the FGC, where they got their start, and what they’d like to see from video games in general.

This weeks guest is considered a hidden gem in the FGC: Mike Begum aka Brolylegs.
