Lego City Undercover | Review

Posted on April 21, 2013 by Les Major

Lego City Undercover is two things, and does both very well. It is an all new Lego adventure in the theme and concept of your favourite titles to date, improving on that design. The game is also possibly the first youth friendly Grand Theft Auto inspired title. It really ends up feeling like you’re getting two games in one with all this content. It took me over 24 hours to get through the story, and I still have side objectives around the city to complete.

Undercover focuses on Chase McCain, a police officer just returning to Lego City after years away. In true GTA fashion, this brings you into the world not knowing how it has changed, either. So you’re exploring along with your character. There is very little I took issue with in Lego City Undercover; I really did love the game. It begins with a broadcast from a radio station, and this is quite a tease since the game itself includes no radio stations. So much otherwise reflects GTA wonderfully. The music in Undercover is great, but for those big action scenes that called for it, they could have faded out the radio stations and got back to the original soundtrack.Read More

Donkey Kong Country Hits to the 3DS in May

Posted on April 20, 2013 by Jason Nason

Donkey Kong Country Returns, which was released for the Nintendo Wii back in 2010, is being re-released for the Nintendo 3DS this May. The game is not only being rereleased but also rebalanced for the portable.

With the 3DS’ focus on casual gameplay the challenge levels of some levels have been made a little easier with some tweaks. Whereas in the origianal Wii title you were given two hearts for Donkey and Diddy Kong, you will have three hearts each in the 3DS title to allow you to take more hits. Another new addition to the game is the addition of a portable DK barrel, allowing you to call upon your partner whenever you choose rather than tossing a DK barrel when not needed, thus wasting it.Read More

Injustice Battle Arena Finale Released

Posted on April 20, 2013 by Les Major

Leading up to the release of Injustice: Gods Among Us, there has had a fantastic tournament running featuring fan votes deciding the battles. Not only that but celebrities have been in on the action as well! Definitely take a look through the games official youtube channel for all the action. We’re focusing on this tournaments final battle between Superman and Batman, as well as Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes. It’s a little NSFW but then again Injustice is rated T for Teen after all. There is a more direct video on the site if you want to skip all the fun, but this really is a great feature that celebrates the release of the game. Read on for the video.Read More

Zelda Oracle of Ages / Seasons Coming To 3DS VC

Posted on April 20, 2013 by Les Major

As if getting to return to an all new adventure in the world of A Link To The Past wasn’t enough recent Zelda news, gamers can also get ready for the upcoming release of the Gameboy Color classics Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons on the 3DS Virtual Console. The games seperately focus on two worlds, one of which features Link time traveling, and the other controlling the seasons respectively. Both Capcom developed games will be released on May 30th.

If The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX is any indication of the price point for Gameboy Color titles, gamers can expect the two new titles to potentially sell for $5.99 each.

Second Dimension: The Warrior’s Code Interview

Posted on April 19, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

The fighting game community (FGC) has grown from holding local events to smaller venues to occupying ballrooms at four-star establishments with talent from all across the globe attending. Major sponsors such as Capcom, Namco Bandai, and others are responsible for the development of some of the world’s most famous franchises in gaming, and are showcased at a central tournament featuring the top fighting talent from across the world. With major prize pools, fighting games are now reaching a platform that can be compared to traditional eSports.

Each week, I’ll be posting interviews I’ve had the pleasure of conducting with members of the fighting game community. The interviews will touch upon their history in the FGC, where they got their start, and what they’d like to see from video games in general.

This weeks guest is a man who’s widely considered as one of the top Dee Jay players in the United States: Jamal Crews a.k.a. NC FREEJ4Y.Read More

Can Microsoft Save The Cheerleader & The World?

Posted on April 18, 2013 by Joshua Rust

It appears that they will try. Heroes was a fantastic show the first couple of seasons when it launched. I was as religious to it as Christians going to church on Sunday. Unfortunately due to the writers strike that occurred during the time frame when Heroes was on, it badly hurt the storyline and thus lost viewers…then cancelled. A sad day indeed, as the show had great potential.

Currently in preliminary stages (in talks), it appears that Microsoft is trying to do what the writers of the show couldn’t do – that being save the cheerleader, save the world, resurrect and save the show! It’s said that the new show would be based around a whole new cast of characters and storyline with the previous characters from the original series making cameo appearances now and again.Read More

Bethesda Teases New Video Game, Reveal Tomorrow

Posted on April 18, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Bethesda, for the past few days, have released some really weird teaser clips for their next game. Announced today that the full reveal will in fact be tomorrow (April 19th, 2013), we can’t wait to see what they got up their sleeve. I know I personally am looking forward to the next Fallout game, but I’d gladly welcome any new franchise that they want to put out.

The first video features a spinning record, the second features burning flowers and a mystery background person, and the latest one features a shadow creeping around…

Can anyone make any sense of these clips? Bethesda mentioned this has nothing to do with the Fallout franchise, so this must be something new yes? Rumors say that it could be the next Wolfenstien or Zwei (next game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami).

A Link To The Past 2 Announced

Posted on April 17, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo will return to the setting of A Link To The Past with the announcement of a brand new Zelda title for the 3DS. The Legend of Zelda: Kamigami no Triforce 2 was announced during the Nintendo held this morning and will be available this Fall in the west and early 2014 in Asia.

The game is not a direct sequel to the SNES classic, but rather a new game set in the same universe. In addition to the new dungeons, a “wall drawing” mechanic has been added, allowing link to overcome distances and obstacles by becoming a drawing on dungeon walls. As you can see from the screenshots the game aims to maintain the look and feel of A Link To The Past while rendering everything in real time 3D.

No official title has been revealed for the west as of yet. Check out the first screens after the jump.

New State Of Decay Video Creeps In

Posted on April 16, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Undead Labs and Microsoft Studios have at least narrowed down the month for which the upcoming zombie survival game State Of Decay will release. June. I’m not sure if they are pushing for this to be in the yearly held Microsoft “Summer Of Arcade”, but it could be quite possible. To go along with the tentative release date, Undead Labs has also released a new video for State Of Decay…Read More

The Wii is getting a new JRPG today and we’re eager to see Xseed’s latest title! Following the journey of Aeron as he collects the flesh of boss monsters known as masters to free the cursed Elena from turning into a monster herself. It’s a bit of a grusome task since she must eat the flesh of these monsters to break the curse. Definitely it’s a twist on the regular story line of saving a maiden in distress.
