Second Dimension: The Warrior’s Code Interview

Posted on March 21, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

The fighting game community (FGC) has grown from holding local events at smaller venues to occupying ballrooms at four-star establishments with talent from all across the globe attending. Major sponsors such as Capcom, Namco Bandai, and others are responsible for the development of some of the world’s most famous franchises in gaming, and are showcased at a central tournament featuring the top fighting talent from across the world. With major prize pools, fighting games are now reaching a platform that can be compared to traditional eSports.

Every week, I’ll be posting interviews I’ve had the pleasure of conducting with members of the fighting game community. The interviews will touch upon their history in the FGC, where they got their start, and what they’d like to see from video games in general.

This weeks guest is a man I admire and look up to currently in the FGC: Brian Garcia a.k.a. MH | AlukardNY.Read More

Army Of Two: The Devil’s Cartel Launch Trailer

Posted on March 21, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Visceral Games got off to a fairly decent start this year with Dead Space 3 averaging in at a 78/100 on Metacritic. They look to revive an otherwise stale franchise next week when they release Army Of Two: The Devil’s Cartel on Xbox 360 & Playstation 3. So to keep the hype up for the games impending launch, Electronic Arts & Visceral Games have released a new trailer – the launch trailer in fact.

While I loved the first game, I felt that the sequel was a bit off in places. I’m hoping that Visceral Games renews my faith in this franchise because at its’ core it’s a great co-op game to play with a friend. So here’s hoping that it receives just as good, if not better, reception from the critics.Read More

Black Adam Officially Announced As A Playable Fighter

Posted on March 20, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

Last article I had wrote about the many different ways that Black Adam has been outed as a potential fighter. Toys, magazine references as well as showcased on the character select screen for the game. Today the official Injustice: Gods Among Us facebook page confirmed his inclusion as a playable fighter for the game. So far there’s no reference to how he’ll play except in one screenshot he is shooting lightning from his hands. He might potentially play like Shazam with minor tweaks here and there. Lord British Says “Most Game Designers Just Suck.”

Posted on March 20, 2013 by Eric Bastelak

In an interesting interview with PC Gamer, the original king of RPGs Richard Garriot  (A.K.A Lord British) described his views on the majority of game designers. It’s seems Lord British thinks they suck.

“…other than a few exceptions, like Chris Roberts, I’ve met virtually no one in our industry who I think is close to as good a game designer as I am. I’m not saying that because I think I’m so brilliant. What I’m saying is, I think most game designers really just suck, and I think there’s a reason why.”

“… we’re leaning on a lot of designers who get that job because they’re not qualified for the other jobs, rather than that they are really strongly qualified as a designer. It’s really hard to go to school to be a good designer.”

Honestly the whole interview is an interesting read. The Ultima series may have had it’s ups and downs but Richard Garriot is still a very unique and creative developer. Here’s hoping he will once again help revolutionize our industry.

EA Launches ‘Origin Gamer’s Appreciation Sale’

Posted on March 19, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

EA wants to show you, the gamer, that they love you, buy offering you heavily discounted PC / Xbox 360/ PS3 titles for the next week. Over 200 titles are discounted up to 70% off including some big names from last year.

Some of the noteworthy deals include Battlefield 3 Premium for $24.99, Crysis 3 for $29.99, Mass Effect 3 for $9.99 and Hitman Absolution for $15.00. They’re also throwing in free shopping on physical item orders over $25. I couldn’t possibly list all of the games here, so check out the Origin Store Front for all of the deals.

Will this be enough to sway users to Origin after the disastrous launch of Sim City? I’m sure that EA will be a huge influx of cash from these deals, and Crysis 3’s inclusion is surprising considering the game came out only a few weeks ago. Although players who purchased Sim City and then were offered free copies of Battlefield 3, among other games, must be pissed off that the company is discounting the games used as an apology– effectively tarnishing it.

LEGO City Undercover Released and New Launch Trailer

Posted on March 19, 2013 by Les Major

The Wii U title that everyone has been waiting for is finally available! Gamers take on the role of undercover detective Chase McCain as he pursues criminal mastermind Rex Fury. Combining the stud collecting adventure of previous LEGO titles and the open world concept we’ve seen developing and improving through games like LEGO Lord of the Rings.

Developed by Traveller’s Tales for Nintendo, LEGO City Undercover swaps multiple characters for outfits Chase can disguise himself with to gain access to new areas with their unique abilities. The game has focused areas like previous LEGO titles in which the missions take place, but there is a city out there to explore as well.Read More

Metro: Last Light Offers Salvation

Posted on March 19, 2013 by Joshua Rust

I can’t stress enough how highly underrated Metro 2033 was – probably due to lack of top tier marketing and an overabundance of high profile shooters that made it pale in comparison to some. Well, it only scored a 77/100 on Metacritic, but it’s by far one of my top new IP’s of this generation of consoles (behind Borderlands lol). The sequel, titled Metro: Last Light, which was recently acquired by Deep Silver after THQ’s downfall is set to release May 14th, 2013.

Thankfully it looks like Deep Silver is fully behind this game as they are starting to hype the heck out of it, which the game fully deserves.Read More

Posted on March 18, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Activision and Terminal Reality have released a launch trailer ahead of the March 19th release date for The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct game that will launch on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the Wii U. Staring as the crossbow wielding Daryl Dixon, from the T.V. show, you will get to see what Daryl and brother Merle had to endure while on the way to the “safe haven” in Atlanta. Therefore, this game takes place before the first season of The Walking Dead T.V. show which adds a nice continuum to the long time fans. Question remains if this is a solid first person title or if it’s a cheap cash-in on a well established name?Read More
