Cliff Bleszinski talks State of the Industry

Posted on February 26, 2013 by Jason Bassett

According to Cliff Bleszinski, it seems as though the time is not right to be a console developer. That’s what Bleszinki recently said during an interview with GameIndustry.biz. In his interview Bleszinski states that:

“This business has not been in a state of transition like it is right now since the video game crash of the ’80s”. He goes on to say: “”I really think we’re in a massive state of turmoil. I think Nintendo could possibly be faced with the situation of becoming a company that only makes software moving forward. I think Sony and Microsoft are about to come to major blows. But at the same time, people love playing games on their iPad. The PC is going through a wonderful renaissance right now. I think we’re ready to do digital download games all the time…I just want to see what happens. In regards to the industry, it’s like the Super Smash Bros. of business right now, and I want to see if Peach or Mario wins.”Read More

BioShock Vita Hasn’t Entered Active Development

Posted on February 26, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Remember the PlayStation Vita version of Bioshock? Well it won’t be happening until funding has been secured, according to series creative force Kevin Levine.

Originally reported by IGN, in a series of short rapid fire questions centered around various topics, Levine stated that the project is currently on hold. He also elaborated on why the PlayStation Move matters and gave his opinion on the recently revealed PlayStation 4.

Murmurs of Bioshock Vita began to circle at E3 2011 after the reveal of Sony’s latest handheld. Now that we know the game hasn’t even entered production perhaps it will face the same fate as the PSP iteration of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, desired by fans but never fully realized.

We’ve got the quote from the IGN article after the jump!Read More

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance | Review

Posted on February 26, 2013 by Jason Bassett

Version tested: Xbox 360

Fast is a good adjective to describe Raiden. Lightning-quick is another good one. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a very fast and highly violent video game–very violent. It’s possible that one could become nauseous at the violence in this game. That’s on the surface of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Deep within the core of Rising lies a very awesome and very challenging video game that will give you a deeper understanding of how Platinum Games and Kojima Productions have taken a project that was once almost dead and buried and turned it into one of the must have titles this year.Read More

Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time | Review

Posted on February 25, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

Version tested: PlayStation 3

The Sly Cooper series was one of the more iconic franchises for the PlayStation 2. These interesting games (Sly Cooper and Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves) were centered around stealth mechanics and had you play as a good-hearted thief named Sly who lived in a world full of anthropomorphic animals. The series was fun and had a lot going for it. However, unlike other popular PlayStation 2 franchises, such as Ratchet & Clank, Sly and his merry band of thieves have been notably absent from this generation of consoles. Read More

Dead Space 3 | Review

Posted on February 22, 2013 by Les Major

Version tested: PC

Dead Space is a great game series. Roaming the USG Ishimura in the first game, then exploring Titan Station in the sequel was an absolute survival horror treat. There is that magic about Dead Space, and it’s the kind of game you can play with your friends around as you wander the halls watching out for Necromorphs and items to pick up. However, many fans, including myself, were scared the most to see the bright snowy landscape of Dead Space 3. Thankfully, these fears were unfounded.Read More

New Tomb Raider Video Guides You To Survive Combat

Posted on February 21, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Man, I can’t rave enough about how awesome Tomb Raider looks. To think where she originated and to what it looks like now is truly amazing and inspiring.  A new video has been released by Square Enix & Crystal Dynamics that will teach you everything you need to know about “Combat Survival”.

[youtube id=”P9u4Roxo9jw” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Here is how Square Enix describes this video:

The first two episodes of Guide to Survival highlighted how an inexperienced Lara Croft must use her intellect and whatever she can scavenge to survive the harsh conditions of Yamatai. In this final episode we dig deep into Lara’s scrappy and raw approach to combat.

The elements aren’t the only thing after Lara on the island – predators come in both two and four-legged varieties. Lara’s unlocked skills and weapon upgrades culminate in her combat style, executed in both close-quarters and frenzied firefights.

Outnumbered and outgunned, stealth is frequently Lara’s strongest advantage. Approaching enemies undetected will allow her to pull off silent kills and keep fellow Solarii in the dark. The environment will also provide frequent opportunities for Lara to gain the upper hand. She must always be prepared to brawl up close, however, aided by dodge and counter moves and improved equipment. With wits and weapons combined, Lara is a smart and ultimately very dangerous fighter.

Tomb Raider will launch on March 5th, 2012…and I will reiterate like I always do: I CAN’T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS!

Ubisoft Confirms Watch Dogs is Next Gen, New Demo Shown

Posted on February 20, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Since it was first reveled people have been excited for Watch Dogs. From the demo shown today at the 2013 PlayStation event it’s easy to see why. Through an extraordinary demo we see yet another dystopian look at how technology has changed. After some fly by shots of a beautiful open world, we see our protagonist who can interact with virtually everyone via his smart phone. Hack into the bank accounts of passers by and then use an ATM to withdraw their funds. After witnessing a case of domestic violence, our hero attempts to apprehend the perpetrator. This starts an epic chase scene that leads to him hearing a 911 call in real time, which in turn leads to a thrilling chase with police. This entire time you see the player hacking into technology. On the fly he is able to hack and stop a nearby monorail; he leaps onto the roof and allows it to speed away. If Watch Dogs truly can allow this level of interactivity that alters the course of game play I just can’t see a negative. Here’s hoping we will have more information on Watch Dogs soon.

Infamous: Second Son Revealed

Posted on February 20, 2013 by Eric Bastelak

Oh my god Infamous: Second Son was unveiled at the Sony conference today. This was huge. As an enormous fan of the Infamous franchise I have to say I’m pumped. The game looks to parallel our real world with just how stripped of freedom the world is getting in the misguided direction of “National Security”. As a bit of political buff I love this direction; it’s a hard question to put to gamers and I think it’s a wonderful thing to see. Way to go Sucker Punch. You’ve got me hooked I can’t wait to explore this almost too close to reality dystopia.   The trailer features  some wonderful images driving its theme of sacrificed freedom. Then we get a look at the new super powers we will hopefully get to play with before ending on and awesome line of: “You are not in control.” This game is going to be amazing. I’m down Sucker Punch I’m down.Read More

Killlzone Shadowfall Announced & Demo’d

Posted on February 20, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sony Computer Entertainment returns to the sci-fi world of Killzone with the announcement of Killzone: Shadowfall for the PlayStation 4. Remember how the PS3 was unveiled 7 years ago with a spectacular demo of Killzone 2? Well Shadowfall is set to blow us all away.

During the demo our protagonist is on board of a drop-shop that circles a very large complex, possibly a sky scraper. As the ship lands the protagonist makes his way through a high security checkpoint. The installation is secure and citizens walk around, complete with high detail and life like animations. Unfortunately the safety is not to be as the Helghast attack the structure.

Our description of the demo continues after the jump, including a copy of the demo embedded via YouTube.Read More

PS4 Confirmed, Here Are The Tech Specs

Posted on February 20, 2013 by Eric Bastelak

Sony confirmed the PS4 at their “see the future” press event today in New York city. Taking the stage, the system’s architect outlined the development process behind the console, as well as several key features of the system and our first look at the user interface.

As previously rumored the system is based off an existing AMD APU – said to be clocked at 1.6GHZ, which has been confirmed to contain 8 cores. The GPU is very powerful according to Sony and the PlayStation 4 features 8GB of unified memory, giving developers approximately 16x the ram available in current generation consoles.

There isn’t just new hardware under the hood, Sony’s dual shock controller also has some major changes in store. The addition of a share button allows players to share screenshots, video and upload them onto the web without complicated software. The controller also features a light bar, similar to the move controller, which when used in conjunction with a new camera accessory gives the system the ability to detect the controllers position in 3D space.

Development of the PS4 began in 2008 and features a whole series of new features. We will have more soon, as it is announced.
