Black Ops 2: Declassified Offical Blurb

Posted on June 20, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Aside from a logo unveiled during Sony’s E3 press conference two weeks we haven’t heard many details surrounding Activision’s upcoming portable version of Call of Duty Black Ops 2. We can’t to try it out on the Vita, as the first person shooter genre isn’t well represented on the platform. From the official blurb it looks like Activision is looking to bring the full experience including Spec Ops and Multiplayer.

Check it out below:

Before the future could be won, history had to be written. Exposing that story exclusively on PlayStation® Vita, Call of Duty®: Black OpsDeclassified explores original fiction in the Call of Duty® Black Ops universe with an all-new campaign of Special Ops missions.  Optimized for gamers on-the-go, Call of Duty® Black Ops: Declassified delivers the most intense handheld Call of Duty® experience to date, including both Special Ops Story mode and Multiplayer combat tailored for the PS Vita.

Ship Simulator Extremes Collection and New Magicka DLC Released

Posted on June 19, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Paradox Interactive has announced the release of two titles today. The first is the Ship Simulator Extremes Collection which includes the base game and all of its 6 DLCs.  This collection will allow land lubbers to be the skipper on ships ranging from puny dingies to gargantuan cargo vessels. The press release promises hundreds of hours of gameplay and several real world ports, hopefully most of those promised hours won’t involve being stuck in St. Paul Island‘s dock because of ice. The collection also includes a revamped mission editor and 24 player online multiplayer (I shudder to think of the traffic jams).

The other title is a new DLC for Magicka titled The Other Side of the Coin. This DLC lets players take on the role of “Alucart the Vampire,” who is totally different from various vampires named Alucard. For one thing, Alucart’s name ends with a T rather than a D. Furthermore, he’s got some necromancer buddies and a mission to destroy everything that is good and wholesome in Magicka’s universe (if there is anything wholesome in a series that practically encourages you to “accidentally” kill your friends).

You can view trailers for both titles after the jump.Read More

Doom 3 BFG Edition Release Date Announced

Posted on June 19, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Bethesda Softworks has announced the details of Doom 3 BFG Edition’s release date. This re-mastered version of Doom 3 (which includes the Resurrection of Evil expansion, 7 new levels, as well as Doom and Doom 2) is, if all goes according to the Spider Mastermind’s plan, coming to North America on October 16. Europe will have to wait an extra three days.

Most of the press release focuses on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 version. For example, there will be achievements, trophies, a check point save system, and “fine-tuned” controls that will “bring the intensity of the DOOM single and multiplayer experience to the consoles.” However, PC gamers will pay only $29.99 for the BFG edition, ten dollars less than the console versions. Also, PC gamers who fondly remember the duct tape mod will be happy to know that the BFG edition has added an “armor-mounted flashlight,” giving players the ability to see things and shoot them simultaneously.

Don’t Expect Starcraft Ghost Anytime Soon

Posted on June 18, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

A lot has happened in the past decade in terms of gaming, we’ve seen the launch and decline of the seventh generation of home consoles as well as Sony entering the portable space with the PSP and following it up with the PlayStation Vita seven years later. Perhaps no project, save Half-Life 3, has been as highly anticipated, and yet completely denied, as Blizzard’s Starcraft Ghost.

Fans have waited anxiously for any update regarding the project since it was officially placed on hold in 2005. Speaking with Kotaku, Starcraft 2’s lead designer Dustin Browde says that the game is not currently being worked on but the folks at Blizzard haven’t ruled out resurrecting it in the future, however it could be some time before any of that comes to pass.Read More

Just Cause 2 Muliplayer Mod Impresses

Posted on June 18, 2012 by Jesse Lord

There are many reasons to enjoy the open-word extravaganza that is Just Cause 2.  They include, but are certainly not limited to, flying behind a gas canister that you’ve grappled onto after shooting it, taking insane base-jumping feats to the next level by adding guns into the mix, driving cars off cliffs with hilarious and oftentimes spectacular results, and of course that floating club that everyone’s been raving about.  One thing many a gamer was clamoring for, however, was a multiplayer mode.  Well, wonder no more!

Is This Halo 4’s Viral Marketing Campaign?

Posted on June 18, 2012 by Kirk Williford

From “I Love Bees” to “Iris”, the Halo franchise and Alternate Reality Games (ARGs) seem to go hand-in-hand these days — a trend that appears to be continuing with Halo 4, if a recent ad on ESPN.com is to be believed.

Last Friday, a flash ad for Halo 4 begun appearing on the top of ESPN.com’s front page. The ad played a Halo 4 trailer, as one might expect, but here’s where it starts to get strange: after awhile, the ad appears to take over the entire screen, blasting tons of strange information ranging from hexagon symbols to raw code, all in an orange color.

The ad, which can be viewed directly from ESPN’s servers here, already has fans of the Halo franchise and ARGs as a whole talking and working together to try and learn more. As of now, however, nothing significant has been discovered — although that surely will change in the near future.

Halo’s previous ARGs have involved plenty of community interaction and relished rewards for some lucky fans. We’ll have to wait and see what’s ahead for Master Chief, but when more is discovered surrounding this ad, we’ll be sure to let you know. Since the actual ad doesn’t show up on ESPN.com as of now, we’ve included a video of it “taking over” the main page of ESPN.com, which you can view after the break.Read More

Sorcery | Review

Posted on June 17, 2012 by Eric Bastelak

When Sony first showed us the Play Station Move at E3 2010 there was one demo that caught everyone’s attention: Sorcery. In this demo we saw just what the Move was capable of. It could detect a variety of motions and even angles, all of these could affect the events in the game. Needless to say I was blown away. Basically the Move seemed to offer what Nintendo’s Wii had promised me. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Sorcery unfortunately all news went dark. The game released almost completely under my radar.

The time has come now; the game is in my hands. So what did I think? Sorcery is a game that gave me a very Legend of Zelda type feeling. Now this analogy can give the wrong impression at first; you are not traveling through an expansive world with lots of hidden secrets. Basically if you stapled all of the dungeons in a Legend of Zelda game together that would cover Sorcery’s campaign. The game is linear but not in a bad way, it progresses you steadily through linear levels on a set path but it never seems to get repetitive or boring.Read More

The Secret World is currently doing closed beta weekends, and somehow I got invited. Actually, the email doesn’t even say what I did to get sent a code, but hey, here we are.

What follows is my liveblog of what I did this afternoon.

WARNING! IT CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS. That’s the only time I’m telling you. But I guess if I had to warn you about that, there are probably a lot of words you’ve already passed that probably gave you trouble…

Anyway, as they say when they’re moving on with the show, ON WITH THE SHOW!Read More

At launch, players had access to map packs such as Middle Earth and Westeros (the main continent in Song of Ice and Fire), additional, wonders, and religions such as Jainism, Baha’i, and Pastafarianism.
